New Group in Victor, NY - FRIENDS OF THE RAILROAD - Announces Kick-off Meeting

Train in Victor - 2008. (C) Dana Jones.Friends of the Railroad, Inc. will host a meeting on Jan. 22, 2009 at 7:00 PM at the newly opened Victor Town Hall, 85 East Main Street. A representative from the Finger Lakes Scenic Railway will make a short presentation.

Members of Friends of the Railroad, Inc. will give a brief history and share their vision and goals for the future. The purpose of this new organization is to enhance the community's awareness of the historical significance that the railroads had on Victor. They plan to do this through education, preservation and acquisition of railroad structures and artifacts.

A small group of volunteers has already incorporated as a 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit organization. They sponsored an inaugural train festival and excursions last August and are planning the second annual festival for 2009. All interested individuals who would like to learn more about the organization, become a member and help make the return of trains to Victor a success are urged to attend.
